This year's Scotbuild, the biggest construction event in Scotland, will, for the first time, feature a Health and Safety Zone where delegates can see short and practical presentations on priority health and safety issues in the construction industry.
Being held at the SECC Glasgow, the first day, today (Tuesday 2 November) focuses on working at height; the tomorrow (Wednesday) majors on site transport and mechanical handling; and the final day (Thursday) looks at occupational health, particularly noise and hand arm vibration.
The Health and Safety Zone has been organised by Site Safe Scotland as part of the Working Well Together campaign and will be supported by Dramanon, a training company which will bring health and safety issues to life through professional role-play and creative training techniques.
HSE Head of Construction for Scotland and the North of England Pam Waldron commented:
"The Health and Safety Commission has identified the construction industry as apriority sector due to the high number of fatal and major injury accidents. I hope that this new opportunity for us to raise awareness of the key topics - what kills, injures and makes workers ill - will help us to reach a new audience in a way which they find interesting and thought provoking."
